Local Health & Wellbeing in a Changing Climate

Your Climate and Climate North East, in association with Climate UK and the Environment Agency, hosted ‘Local health and wellbeing in a changing climate’ in York on 5 March 2013.

Although climate change will bring some welcome benefits to health (such as milder winters and fewer coldrelated deaths), these are predicted to be outweighed by a range of negative effects. Preparing and building resilience now will save money, protect lives, and help deliver health outcomes. In addition, action will help to reduce inequalities by protecting vulnerable groups who are disproportionately affected by climate impacts.

The Health and Social Care Act 2012 establishes Health and Wellbeing Boards as a forum where leaders from the health and social care system work to improve the health and wellbeing of the local population and target the reduction of health inequalities.
