Northern Regions NI188 Advanced Workshop (25 March 2010)

Hosted by the Government Offices for Yorkshire & Humber and the North East, a dedicated workshop took place for local authorities that were aiming for high performance against NI188, i.e. levels 3 and 4 in the next year. The workshop featured sharing of best practice, barriers to progress, learning between regions and options appraisal of adaptive measures.

Outcomes from the day:

Common Barriers were:

  • Embedding adaptation action across the LSP partners and still in some Council Departments
  • Poor understanding of the terminology – ‘adaptation’ V ‘mitigation’
  • Resources of Councils to lead work and for partners to implement

Further help that would be useful:

  • Further sharing of progress and tools/templates developed between authorities and regions – perhaps co-ordinated nationally.
  • Further information on risk management approaches and specific information on adaptive responses on particular themes
  • An agenda and associated presentations are provided on in the related documents section below.
