Red Tape Challenge - Housing and Construction

Over 200 regulations are covered by the Housing and Construction Red Tape Challenge. The housing and construction industries are key to driving growth in our economy. Through smarter regulation, we can remove barriers to growth and encourage investment, choice and innovation. The Housing Strategy, published in November 2011, commits the Government to developing a thriving, active and stable housing market that offers choice, flexibility and affordable housing.

The governement want to use the Red Tape Challenge to ensure that the systems behind these regulations run in the most effective and light touch way, whilst maintaining the necessary safeguards, and ensuring that the industry continues to provide high-quality homes and builds safe, sustainable and accessible buildings. This should include high quality, affordable and secure housing to buy and rent as well as the commercial and industrial development required to support economic growth.

They want to hear your views on the regulatory and administrative burdens that affect you – helping us identify areas for change and agree more effective ways of achieving common aims to provide the homes and other development the country needs.
