Local authorities in Yorkshire & Humber collectively spend £120m per year on energy procurement. With rising fuel costs and unprecedented budget pressures this workshop will help authorities to share and identify good practice, develop networks between the different professional networks involved in procuring, managing and reducing energy use and begin to develop a roadmap to reduce regional spend on energy.

The Sheffield Renewables Jordan Dam project is moving forward rapidly, and Sheffield Renewables are now looking for grants to help build the scheme. The online community EnergyShare is offering up to £100,000 for projects like Jordan Dam. To win these grants, Sheffield Renewables need to get as many ‘supporters’ as possible signed up on their website by the end of the month. This exciting study was commissioned by Local Government Yorkshire and Humber to assess the resource potential for renewable and low carbon energy generation across the Yorkshire and Humber region. The findings of the Y&H Renewable and Low Carbon Capacity Study provide an evidence base to assist sub-regional stakeholders and local authorities in the preparation of their own targets, strategies and policies for renewable and low carbon energy development.

New website helps Yorkshire businesses to cut costs and CO2 emissions

A new website has been launched this week that will help businesses to cut their costs and their carbon emissions. The Greener Business Website brings together information for businesses about making changes that will help them make significant savings by being more environmentally aware. Each of the region’s 22 local authorities have their own version of the website that can be accessed through their main websites, giving businesses information specific to their area.

Job Vacancy: Sheffield Renewables Construction Project Manager

Sheffield Renewables requires a construction project manager (community hydro power) to bring forward plans for our Jordan Dam Hydro Scheme. The work is offered urgently as a three month temporary part-time post (£30-40,000 p.a. 3 months, pro rata 2-2.5 d/w) from June to August 2011.

Applications deadline is midnight 25th May.

National Park hydro scheme wins award

A community hydropower scheme in the Yorkshire Dales National Park has won a regional green award. The River Bain hydro project at Bainbridge won the ‘Best Community’ category in the 2011 Yorkshire and the Humber Microgeneration Awards.
