Training for Low Carbon Energy Proposals

A training event, to help planners assess landscape issues in relation to renewable and Low carbon Energy Proposals is to be funded through the Climate Change Skills Fund and will be held at Hambleton District Council on 26th June 2012 from 10am – 4pm.

A number of other studies have been completed in the North Yorkshire and York sub-region that help to provide certainty around the potential to deliver Renewable and Low-Carbon Energy (RLCE). These are:

Reducing emissions from heritage buildings

‘Low Carbon Heritage Buildings: a guide’ has been produced to help people across Yorkshire and Humber sensitively introduce changes to historically important buildings that improves their environmental performance.

Dates Announced for Climate Change Training for Planning Officers

The Comprehensive Planning and Climate Change Training for Planning Officers will be delivered by Arup to enhance the skills planning officers need to take positive action on climate change and increase local authority capacity to tackle the causes and effects.

Skills for a green economy

Empowering employees to reduce carbon emissions in the office

It provides an interactive animated tour of a typical workplace, starting by considering how an employee arrives for work, moving on to their desk and other office areas to complete the journey.

Local authority Leaders and Chief Executives recognised the critical importance of managing the risks and opportunities associated with climate change in Yorkshire and Humber and agreed a programme of work that commenced in February 2009. Economic value of biodiversity

This report presents the findings of a study of 'The Economic Valuation of the Ecosystem Service Benefits delivered by the UK Biodiversity Action Plan'. The research, commissioned by Defra (and partners) in 2008, was undertaken by a consortium led by Aberystwyth University. Research had already been undertaken to estimate the costs and expenditure related to meeting the UK BAP. This study was intended to provide estimates of the benefits associated with meeting the UK BAP to complement the costs work.

Bee Buddies is a buzzing success

Sheffield’s air is abuzz with 2 million honeybees introduced by our Bee Buddies project. The 12 month project set out to address the dramatic decline in UK honey bee numbers over the last few years. The British Beekeepers’ Association estimate that one-third of all honeybee colonies were lost last year, and that if positive action is not taken immediately, Britain’s honeybees will disappear by 2018.
