Training for Low Carbon Energy Proposals

A training event, to help planners assess landscape issues in relation to renewable and Low carbon Energy Proposals is to be funded through the Climate Change Skills Fund and will be held at Hambleton District Council on 26th June 2012 from 10am – 4pm.

A number of other studies have been completed in the North Yorkshire and York sub-region that help to provide certainty around the potential to deliver Renewable and Low-Carbon Energy (RLCE). These are:

Heritage Counts 2011

Each year 'Heritage Counts' explores the role of the historic environment in wider social and economic agendas.

'Heritage Counts' is produced on behalf of the Historic Environment Forum. This year it looks at the historic environment and Big Society, introducing new research into the role of heritage in civil society and highlighting our plans for increasing on-going engagement in local heritage issues.

Local Enterprise Partnership Capacity Fund

Round 2 of the Government’s Capacity Fund for LEPs is now open. The second round will allocate the remaining £3 million. The application process has been simplified in that there is now no bidding process and the fund has been broadened to support LEPs in addressing the issues that will best help them deliver local growth. The deadline for completed application forms is 13 February 2012.

Rural Growth Networks

On 29 December 2011 Defra launched a competition to identify six pilot Rural Growth Networks. Around £15 million is to be invested in the pilots aimed at supporting rural businesses and growing the rural economy. The Rural Growth Networks will help rural areas overcome barriers to growth such as lack of suitable premises and poor provision of infrastructure like superfast broadband and mobile networks. Up to £2.3 million will be allocated to supporting rural enterprises led by women.

Groundwork Sheffield and its partners Groundwork Wakefield and Heeley Development Trust, are delighted to announce a new project that aims to create 101 jobs and 15 social enterprises to boost the green economy and create employment opportunities for the people in South Yorkshire and the rest of Yorkshire and The Humber.

This project is being supported by European Union investment, receiving over £750,000 from the European Regional Development Fund through the Yorkshire & The Humber ERDF programme 2007-13.

Climate Change Skills Fund - YoHr Space Programme Report and Project Update

Local authority Leaders and Chief Executives recognised the critical importance of managing the risks and opportunities associated with climate change in Yorkshire and Humber and agreed a programme of work that commenced in February 2009. This report sets out the overall programme aims, objectives and outcomes for the YoHr Space Climate Change Programme. Economic value of biodiversity

This report presents the findings of a study of 'The Economic Valuation of the Ecosystem Service Benefits delivered by the UK Biodiversity Action Plan'. The research, commissioned by Defra (and partners) in 2008, was undertaken by a consortium led by Aberystwyth University. Research had already been undertaken to estimate the costs and expenditure related to meeting the UK BAP. This study was intended to provide estimates of the benefits associated with meeting the UK BAP to complement the costs work.

Since last year the policy and funding landscape for economic development has changed radically. Their focus has shifted to locally-driven growth, and Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs), locally-owned partnerships of local authorities and businesses, have been announced to replace some of the functions of the outgoing Regional Development Agencies.
