Climate Just website maps England’s climate disadvantage ‘hot spots’

The impacts of climate change will not be equal or fair and, without action, could increase existing disadvantage. This message was reinforced in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 5th Assessment report.

Now for the first time in England, on a publicly available website, we are able to see this effect mapped across the country at a neighbourhood level. Climate Just, a powerful new website with mapping tool, has been launched today by Climate UK and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, in partnership with the Environment Agency and the University of Manchester.

Creating & Managing Resilient Local Highways - resource published

A new resource for practitioners involved with the maintenance and development of the local highway network in a changing climate has been published by Climate UK. 'Creating & Managing Resilient Local Highways' follows the successful event in Wakefield presented by Your Climate, in association with Climate UK and national partners, including the Department for Transport and ADEPT that was aimed at local authority elected members, service managers and officers from highways engineering, maintenance, street services, strategic planning, regeneration, environment and sustainability.

Local Health & Wellbeing in a Changing Climate

Your Climate and Climate North East jointly hosted a workshop in York on 5 March to explore the health implications of a changing climate and how partners can work together to improve health outcomes through the new arrangements for the NHS and public health. Presentations from the day and links to resources to help organisations adapt are now available to view on-line and download from the Your Climate website.

Climate Disadvantage - What are the social impacts of climate change?

Disadvantaged people and communities can be disproportionately affected by climate change. This landmark event will examine the links between climate change and poverty, help to identify the interdependancies and explore ways to understand and improve our responses through climate change adaptation policy and practice.

Climate Change Risk Assessment Published

The UK Climate Change Risk Assessment (CCRA) 2012 has now been published. It is the first assessment of its kind for the UK and the first in a 5 year cycle. It provides underpinning evidence that can be used by Government to help inform priorities for action and appropriate adaptation measures.

YHREF Humber Sub-Region Event: New Jan 14th Date Announced!

On occasion, it has been like trying to dress an eel in a tuxedo but our workshop programme has generated lively discussion, avenues of investigation and opportunities for future partnerships and networks.

David Walker (Deputy Chief Medical Officer) heads up our list of speakers to present the case for integrating climate change adaptation into Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNAs) and local Health and Wellbeing Strategies.

National Adaptation Plan pubished on 1st July

On 1 July the government laid the first National Adaptation Programme before Parliament in line with a commitment set out in the Climate Change Act 2008. The Programme builds upon the evidence presented in the UK Climate Change Risk Assessment, published in January 2012, and sets out government’s objectives, policies and proposals for addressing the risks identified.

Health Effects of Climate Change in the UK 2012

This new report published by the Health Protection Agency compliments and builds on the evidence in the Health Sector report from the UK Climate Change Risk Assessment by providing scientific evidence of the wider health risks from climate change in the UK. The report was presented at the recent Your Climate / Climate North East conference 'Local Health & Wellbeing in changing climate' and is available to download directly from the HPA's website. (Please note that the HPA will become Health Protection England on 1st April).

EU 2020 Going Local

The project involves 14 partners from across Europe developing a new programme around the delivery of the Europe 2020 strategy.
