The Government has published its new Bill which they claim will drive the provision of energy efficiency for homes and businesses, enable low carbon energy supply and create a fair energy market. As such it is a key piece of legislation that will be crucial if we are to achieve the UK’s contribution to carbon emission reductions over the next decade and beyond.
Friends of the Earth has produced a short guide to what should be included in the final legislation when it is passed in 2011. Key demands include:
- Local carbon budgets for all local authorities;
- A national retrofit scheme for UK homes
- Emissions Performance Standards for coal and gas power stations;
- Extension of Feed In Tariffs to cover installations up to 10MW.
